Formerly the estate of H.F. du Pont, Winterthur is now the home of a world premier museum, library, and naturalistic garden. This "Robinsonian" wild garden, started in the early 1900s, is a wealth of design ideas that can be adapted to gardens of all sizes and styles. Join us for a program that will explore the history, plants, and design concepts of the Winterthur garden. Linda Eirhart is the Assistant Director of Horticulture/Curator of Plants at Winterthur Museum and Garden. She and her staff are responsible for the horticultural care, design, and documentation of the Winterthur Garden. In her career at Winterthur she has worked on restoration teams to return the garden to the founder's original design intent and was also on the design team for the creation of Enchanted Woods, an award winning children's garden. The process of co-evolution creates and sustains the rich diversity of plants and insects on earth today. This presentation will explore a myriad of beneficial roles insects play as pollinators, primary consumers, and natural enemies of pests in our landscapes. Dr. Raupp has published widely, presented more than 700 lectures, and received eight awards including the Secretary of Agriculture's Award for Environmental Protection.
