Friday, April 7 Tour a Recycling Center  Sorry, this program is full Celebrate Earth Month by exploring where all of our recycling from our curbside goes. Join a guided tour of the Baltimore County Materials Recovery Facility in Cockeysville.

Ecologist John Canoles will lead us through the meadows and Nature Walk to experience the spring migration. Hopes will be high to catch glimpses of migrating warblers and resident birds preparing for summer.

Enter the world of Herpetology with Naturalist and Executive Director of the Susquehannock Wildlife Society, Scott McDaniel. Search the gardens and Nature Walk for reptiles and amphibians and learn what makes them so fascinating.

Foraging in our Gardens and Forests with Nick Spero of the Natural History Society

How many hobbies offer exercise, the beauty of nature and a tasty meal? Well, foraging provides all of these. Join Nick Spero in exploring Ladew’s gardens and forest for some yummy treats. Nick is a biologist and longtime forager who teaches courses on wild edibles for the Natural History Society of Maryland.

Native Bees with Pollinator Biologist Clare Maffei
Did you know there are about 400 native bee species in Maryland? Explore the gardens, meadows, and forest in search of the many different species found at Ladew. Clare Maffei is a Pollinator Biologist for the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service with a huge passion for native bees.

Nocturnal Night at Ladew

Enjoy an evening of star gazing from the Manor House portico with Astronomer Pierre Chayer, the Canadian representative on the Guiding Team of the James Webb Project. Also sneak a peek into the world of nocturnal insects at our mothing ID station with David Webb, from the Maryland Biodiversity Project.

Fall Bird Count with Ecologist John Canoles of Eco-Science Professionals

Come along for a walk along the Nature Trail to catalog the fall bird activity on the property. John Canoles will help to identify confusing fall warblers. We hope to see some raptors and other fall migrating species.

Enjoy a fall walk with Nick Spero as we search for and learn about magical world of fungi. Nick is a biologist and longtime forager who teaches for the National History Society of Maryland

Qigong Workshop with Carol Sudzak

Savor the last day of the season with Carol Sudzak as she guides you through this mind-body exercise. Qigong uses meditation, breathing, and movement to increase energy and enable the body to heal itself. This practice was developed in ancient China and Tibet and has countless health-related benefits.



TAI CHI MONDAYS

We are excited to partner with Carol Sudzak to offer Tai Chi Mondays. Carol has been a Tai Chi practitioner for more than a dozen years. She practices the Yang Style short form of Tai Chi Chuan, the Tree of Life Tai Chi protocol, Ichuan standing meditation, the Tai Chi sword, fan, and stick forms, as well as various Qigong forms including the Five Animal Frolics and the Soaring Crane set.

Ladew’s mission is to provide a mental and physical health benefit for our community as well as an extra perk for our members. Classes run approximately 45 minutes.

TIME | 9:30 – 10:30 am
FEE | FREE for Members | Included with general admission for non-members
REGISTRATION | NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED – DROP IN
CHECK-IN | Check-in at the Admissions Gatehouse. Liability waivers must be signed upon arrival. Participants gather at the picnic tables prior to venturing out into the gardens for class. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Classes begin promptly at 9:30 am. Please arrive early for check-in.|
